Organizations Dedicated to Assisting Developmentally Disabled People

Many charities across the country serve the developmentally challenged and mentally retarded, which may surprise you. These groups are responsible for locating vocational services and community access for people with impairments. These united nations agencies advocate for the mentally impaired and seek to provide developmentally disabled people with a normal existence that includes job, recreation, and self-sufficiency.

Smaller community-based initiatives are also available. While national groups may appear to be larger and more well-funded, community-based associations can be just as valuable in lobbying for disabled individuals' equality in the community.

Vocational companies increasingly assist the mentally challenged in locating and securing employment. One such company is Goodwill Industries. Members of the mentally retarded community will be employed by Goodwill at its businesses. From sorting donations to stocking the store, these assignments are diverse. Employees that work for Goodwill may also assist consumers on the sales floor and serve as cashiers.

Other vocational services assist developmentally impaired individuals in finding gainful jobs in their communities. They collaborate with companies and institutions to place mentally challenged people in regular jobs where they may thrive and earn money.

The ARC is a non-profit company with locations around the United States. The Association of Retarded Citizens was originally called as ARC, but it is now just known as ARC. The ARC conducts social and community events for developmentally impaired people, as well as training them to advocate for themselves before local, state, and federal government agencies. Thanks to the ARC's hard work and perseverance, several handicap-accessible parks, playgrounds, and structures have been built.
