Sunshine Communities makes it our mission to make sure that every disabled person in our care is comfortable and safe. Sunshine Communities has all sorts of therapeutic and recreational programs available to people in their care. On our main campus, Sunshine offers many different kinds of recreational and therapeutic programs that are also open to the public. We have Sunshine Acres, a multisensory room, and also a pool and gym.
There’s Sunshine Acres, which houses our therapy horses, Daisy, Katie, Harley and Taz. We offer a variety of equine assisted activities with certified riding instructors. Sunshine Acres is also where our crew tends our flower, herb, and vegetable gardens. Tending to a garden can prove very therapeutic and enjoyable.
The multisensory room provides a space for the people in our care to relax, recharge, or even a safe space to let out their frustrations. The multisensory room provides a variety of experiences for multiple stimulations. Time spent in such environments can increase concentration, improve alertness, awaken memories, focus attention, and improve mobilization, creativity, and social relationships and communication.
Our pool and gym is a great place for our residents to relax, play, and work out. Our pool is kept at just above 90 degrees, so it’s very comfortable! The Sunshine Community pool hosts arthritis classes, open swim, and pool rentals! The gym has two basketball hoops, basketballs, games, and other sports equipment.
Therapeutic and recreational activities are an essential part of a full and active life, even for non-disabled people. Therapeutic recreations help combat feelings of depression, improve and maintain mobility, and preserve emotional wellness. The opportunities that we provide at Sunshine Communities improve the quality of life of our residents and give them the chance to improve their social and physical skills. These therapeutic and recreational programs help to foster the communal relationships that make up Sunshine Communities!
